Legal Tech and the future of print: What will it mean for Legal Marketers?
I tuned in to Legal TechTalk, Nicole Black’s online video program this morning.
Despite my tuning in late, (I’m visiting my mom in Arizona, so my East Coast internal clock’s a bit off…), I gained some invaluable knowledge. Particularly, Nicki provided insight on cloud computing and the practicality of its usage.
More intriguing to me though, were her thoughts on the future of the print media industry, a topic that never ceases to interest me. No doubt, as multiple print empires fall by the wayside, Arianna Huffington’s Huffington Post has pulled out in front and is still gaining headway – fast!
Nicole shared her thoughts about how lower prices, the need for connectivity and environmental consciousness will bring netbooks like Amazon’s Kindle, Barnes & Noble’s Nook and Apple’s soon to come iPad G2 - to eventually replace the printed medium.
The theory that the introduction and growth one medium will cause the demise of another, is certainly not new. Radio was to put newspapers out of business, television to replace radio; now the internet’s going to replace all print mediums… My point here is, we’re on an ever-changing platform .
Niki stressed that environmental waste consciousness will eventually end the planets desire for paper consumption is very much on-point. In the meantime, the tools that work well will continue to adapt, change and link together extremely well the consumers and those of us who create their content.
Those of us who continue to interact and generate the changes as they happen will cont rise to the top of their industries will be the ones who set precedents.
I subscribed to the New York Times for home delivery this morning, initially because mastering crossword puzzles is one of my goals for 2010. Happily, I discovered their new application NYTimesReader 2.0, by Adobe that allows subscribers to read my Times online, in Arizona in a format that very much resembles Huffington’s.
There’s no greater compliment than imitation so I’m thrilled to find that The Times, one of my favorite journalistic reference sources, is in the running to stay alive by listening to yet another brilliant woman. Kudos for providing me with more tools that I’m more than happy to pay for!
LegalTechTalk airs on Saturday mornings at 10:30 am EST and it’s one you won’t want to miss!
