Using Twitter in Business is Now Mainstream – Is Your Law Firm Using Social Media?
The range of people utilizing Twitter’s Microblog, 140 character notes is widening quickly. Wall Street Journal reported last month that it’s time for lawyers to look at professionals, including other lawyers, using Twitter for development and to “get the job done:.
- An attorney in Fredericksberg, VA, Andrew Flusche, held a webinar on trademark registration, and used Twitter to promote it. He had 15 attendees, compared with the seven he had for a prior seminar he didn’t promote with the service. He also found the service handy for keeping in touch with professional contacts he didn’t get to see very often, saying, “You get interesting glimpses of them… It’s a different way to network with people and get to know them.”
- One real-estate broker follows feeds from more than 1,000 people, including his neighbors and real-estate associates looking for those seeking real-estate in his area. Then, he provides an instant “hotline” by sharing information on Twitter. He also received responses to inquiries he sent out on Twitter from a mortgage broker across the country, allowing him to close a sale the next day.
- Lawyers are regularly Tweeting during conferences to share information
- Zappos.com Inc., the on-line shoe retailer., has more than 450 employees using the service to communicate with one another on topics ranging from politics to marketing plans. Zappos Chief Executive Tony Hsieh kicked off the trend by launching his own personal Twitter account, and continues to blast out updates about his activities to his more than 14,000 followers.
- Comcast Corporation listens to its corporate name on Twitter search and resolves dozens of customer service issues, believe it or not, on Twitter. When it hears a complaint, Comcast looks up the customer’s number and call them.
Twitter’s user base is still relatively small , (1 million plus users), it’s up from 282,000 last year. And these numbers are likely low as much of Twitters use is via unmeasured mobile phones.
